Getting started

New here? Begin with these. 6 questions.

What does Site Upgrade AI do?

We rebuild and tune up websites for local service businesses so they load fast on phones, rank well in search, and can be read by AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Claude. We measure your site before and after the work so you can see what changed.

Who do you work with?

Mostly local service businesses across the US, such as roofers, HVAC and plumbing companies, electricians, pest control, remodelers, auto repair shops, dentists and med spas. Other small businesses are welcome too. See our Portfolio for real work.

What's a good score?

90 and up is where you want to be. Anything below 90 means customers and AI tools are likely passing you by, so the site could use some work. Most issues are fixable, often with a Tune-Up. Run the free check to see your number, or call (928) 288-5497 and we'll go over it with you.

Do I need a new website, or can you fix the one I have?

If you like your design and it just needs fixes, Tune-Up works on your current site. If your site is slow, dated or hard to update, a Rebuild usually costs less than patching it. If you want to be found and cited by AI tools, choose AI Ready. The free check and a free consultation help you decide.

What is the free AI-readiness check?

Enter your web address on the Measure my site page and we score it out of 100 on eight checks: HTTPS, AI crawler access in robots.txt, structured data (JSON-LD), a working sitemap, title tag, meta description, mobile viewport, and how much of your text is in the HTML. It takes seconds and needs no sign-up. The tool does not save the address you enter.

What is the free consultation?

A no-pressure conversation about your site and your goals. Use the form on our home page, email admin@siteupgradeai.com, or call (928) 288-5497.

Where are you based?

Cottonwood, Arizona. We work with businesses anywhere in the United States.

SEO, AEO and GEO

The terms, in plain English. 6 questions.

What is SEO?

Search engine optimization: making each page easy for search engines like Google and Bing to find, understand and list. That covers things like titles, descriptions, headings, speed, mobile layout and a clean sitemap.

What is AEO?

Answer engine optimization: making your pages easy for AI answer tools, such as Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT search, Gemini, Perplexity and Claude, to read. In practice that means letting their crawlers in and putting your text in the page itself instead of loading it with scripts.

What is GEO?

Generative engine optimization: making the facts about your business (who you are, what you do, where you work) clear to AI tools. Structured data and a working sitemap are the core of it.

How are AEO and GEO different?

AEO is about access: can AI tools reach and read your pages? GEO is about clarity: once they read them, are the facts about your business stated plainly and consistently? Our free check covers both.

Do I still need SEO now that people use AI tools?

Yes. Google says the same SEO basics that help regular Search also apply to its AI features, and plenty of customers still search Google the classic way. Good SEO and AI readiness work together.

Do I need special structured data to show up in AI Overviews?

Google says no special markup is required. We still add structured data to every page, because it states your business name, services, location and contact details in a form machines read reliably.

AI tools and your site

Crawlers, citations, and what you control. 5 questions.

Can you get us cited by ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude or Google AI Overviews?

No one can promise that. Each of those systems decides for itself what to cite. What we do is remove the things that get in the way: we let their crawlers in, put your text in the page, and describe your business in a form machines can read.

Which crawlers does your free check look at?

It reads your robots.txt and checks access for GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, PerplexityBot, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, Applebot-Extended and CCBot. The check passes when none of them are blocked from your whole site.

Should I block AI crawlers?

That is your call. Some crawlers power search and answers, while others collect training data, and you can treat them differently. For example, OpenAI uses OAI-SearchBot for ChatGPT search and GPTBot for training, and Google-Extended controls use in Gemini without affecting Google Search. Note that our free check counts any blocked crawler on its list, including training crawlers, so if you choose to block some, we can talk through the trade-offs.

Do all AI tools follow robots.txt?

The major search and answer crawlers say they do. Some tools that fetch a page only when a person asks about it may not, so robots.txt is a strong signal, not a lock.

Can I keep my content out of Google's AI Overviews?

Yes, using the same controls that limit snippets in regular Search, such as nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet or noindex. Google covers them in its AI features documentation. These also affect how you appear in regular Search, so use them carefully.

Measurement and results

What we measure, and what we will not promise. 4 questions.

What do you measure?

Two things. Our free check scores the eight AI-readiness basics listed above. For client work we also run Google Lighthouse on mobile, which reports Performance, Accessibility, Best Practices and SEO scores plus page speed timings. We record each measurement with its date.

What results can I expect?

We measure your scores before and after and show you both. Lighthouse rates 90 to 100 as good, 50 to 89 as needs improvement, and 0 to 49 as poor. The mobile test is strict, so many sites that feel fast score below 90. You can see real measured scores on our Portfolio.

What is Largest Contentful Paint?

How long it takes for the biggest image or block of text on screen to appear. Google's web.dev guidance treats 2.5 seconds or less as good and more than 4 seconds as poor.

Why can my scores change between tests?

Every test is a fresh run, and network and server timing vary, so speed scores can move a few points from one run to the next. That is why we always note when a measurement was taken.
